In 2000 Marten Toonder founded the Toonder Heritage Foundation as to preserve and manage his legal heritage. Besides his own work, the collection also contains the works of his father Marten Toonder senior, his wife Phiny Dick and his brother Jan Gerhard Toonder.

The heritage entails original Mr. Bumble drawings, illustrations, paintings, correspondence, photographs, proof copies of books and other publications, manuscripts, rubricated magazine/newspaper clippings, documentaries and other relevant items.

The Toonder Heritage Foundation ensures that its estate is kept safe while having the collection available for publication, studies, expositions and readings.

It is also the purpose of the foundation to support artistic expression. This may be achieved through sponsoring awards, contributing to publication, and supporting expositions.
