Toonder Copyright
In 2000 Marten Toonder founded the Toonder Copyright Foundation in order to protect the creative legacy of his father Marten Toonder senior, his brother Jan Gerhard Toonder, and his wife Phiny Dick. The major task of the foundation is to manage the copyrights of this creative legacy. An important aim is to keep alive the works of the mentioned authors/artists. Marten Toonder's works deserves some separate attention within this group. His work is so successful that it evokes commercial exploitation. His Bommelsaga captivates generations for years and his literature consequently influences the Dutch language. In his lifetime Marten Toonder is awarded diverse honorary titles and prizes for his qualities as a writer, artist and narrator. Marten Toonder believed that preservation of the artistic integrity of his work to be more important than financial profit. The foundation upholds this belief when allocating licences for merchandising and permission for reproduction. Mr. Bumble and Tom Puss are registered marks held by the foundation. The creations are legally protected against imitation, plagiarism and unlawful use. The protection extends to projects endorsed by the foundation. The Toonder Copyright foundation is also the custodian to other Marten Toonder story characters such as ‘Kappie’, ‘Panda’ and ‘Koning Hollewijn'. |
